VKR Centres of Excellence
The VILLUM FOUNDATION has been committed for a period to strengthening scientific and technological research environments in Denmark with major framework grants. To date, since 2004, 12 grants have been made within various fields of natural and technical science. Research areas within health science, medicine and biomedicine are not included in the programme.
In establishing the VKR Centres of Excellence, the Foundation aims to strengthen selected fields of research, which have already specifically attained high international standing, but also mutually represent a yet unused potential concerning scientific progress and education of scientists. The centre grants are designed to bring together and coordinate the relevant partners in Denmark within the selected fields in the interests of maximising the application and development of Danish expertise. These projects are thus multidisciplinary centres without walls. Selection of VKR Centres of Excellence is effected through direct contact between the Foundation and the relevant researchers and with support from international experts in the fields concerned.
