Postdoctoral Programme
With the Postdoctoral Programme, the Foundation aims to provide financial support for research-based further education of young, talented researchers at Danish or foreign universities and other institutions of higher education, and to enable strong Danish research environments to attract high-achieving postdoctoral candidates irrespective of nationality. The programme covers research areas inside the natural and technical sciences. It does not cover research areas within health science, medical and biomedical science. The 2012-2013 programme is split into two funds, with DKK 39 million awarded following individual application from Danish postdoctoral candidates, and DKK 18 million awarded following application from Danish institutes/departments/institutions (block-stipends) with a view to employing postdoctoral candidates, including from outside Denmark.
The scholarships may be awarded to junior researchers for pursuing further research after gaining their PhD degree. The grant has a mobility requirement: applicants who are abroad at the time of application must use the grant at a Danish institution, while applicants who are in Denmark at the time of application must generally use the grant at an institution abroad. The grants cover salaries consistent with the current Danish collective agreement for academics plus an amount of up to DKK 50,000 to cover sundry expenses in connection with the scholarship. An external panel is responsible for inviting applications and evaluating them, and for determining the amount to be awarded for each postdoctoral scholarship etc. The scholarships are advertised in the daily press and at the universities and institutions of higher education according to customary practice so that all relevant applicants have an opportunity to apply.
The next deadline for applications to individual scholarships is 1 September 2013. The programme is administered by University of Southern Denmark. The text of the full call can be found at the university homepage. There are no more calls for block scholarships in the 2012-2013 programme.
The Foundation does not normally make grants for postdoctoral researchers outside of the Postdoctoral Programm, apart from postdocs included in VKR centres of Excellence and larger research projects.
